What to see and do in the region
Do you want to experience new things during your holiday in the Pyrénées Orientales region? For a city walking tour, nothing beats Perpignan, with its ancient city centre, its cathedral and its Palace of the Kings of Majorca. Holiday explorers will be thrilled when they make the trip to the Fortress of Salses, the Abbey of Saint Michel de Cuxa or Serrabone Priory. Collioure and its port will charm you with enchanting views of the old port as well as typical streets dedicated to arts, crafts and shopping. A stay in the Pyrénées-Orientales is of course a great opportunity to sample the region’s best wines, like Rivesaltes.

You can go to the beach of course, and we’d be willing to bet that this will be your first holiday activity here. When you book a holiday on the Mediterranean, it’s naturally so you can make the most of being by the sea. Barcarès Beach is charming with its windblown palm trees. If you’re looking for a nature site, where the land kisses the sea, the place you want is Dosses Park, a remarkable site facing the Corbières and Canigou Mountains. A clearly marked trail will take you around Salses Pond on a tour of the site. Themed panels add an enjoyable touch of fun to the experience. While you’re here, don’t miss seeing the Lydia, an old ocean liner from the 1930s that was landlocked in Le Barcarès. It is currently undergoing yet another conversion, after serving as a nightclub, a restaurant and a casino. In any case, it is definitely a major symbol of Le Barcarès!

You can see multiple tourist sights while staying at our campsite in Le Barcarès, beginning with the superb Fortress of Salses. Located near Leucate Pond and surrounded by grapevines, it started out as a Renaissance fortress before being turned into a prison. It’s well worth the trip to immerse yourself in an atmosphere worthy of Fort Boyard. Your kids will love it. Our campsite in Le Barcarès is also the ideal spot from which to travel to Perpignan. The old city of the Kings of Majorca has plenty of charm, whether you want to stroll along its picturesque streets or would rather take picture after picture in front of the Sea Lodge or the old Palace of the Kings of Majorca. Perpignan will also give you the chance to dine in an urban setting or go to a concert during your holidays.
Exploring the region
You can take part in all kinds of water activities, like surfing, sailing and scuba diving. Then again, it would be a shame not to make the most of your stay at our campsite in Le Barcarès to travel around the Languedoc-Roussillon region.
Do you enjoy fine wines? The local Rivesaltes vineyards have a well-deserved reputation. You can also push on to Narbonne, passing through the wonderful scenery of the Narbonnaise Regional Nature Park. Another time, head towards the Corbières wine region, with its delightful villages and major historic sites. For example, you can follow in the footsteps of the prehistoric Tautavel Man or make your way to the spectacular fortified town of Carcassonne, completely encircled by its ramparts. In the evening, it will be a treat to go back to the privacy of your bungalow or mobile home at our campsite in Le Barcarès.
